Starting as a Saturday boy in a local salon, Simon became a stylist on the L’Oreal ID Team, representing the company at national and international shows and fashion shoots before going on to open his own salons.

He is now a member of The Fellowship of British Hairdressers and splits his time between working in-salon at Simon Webster Hair (Brighton) and session-styling.

Simon works backstage at Paris, Milan, London & New York Fashion Weeks as well as for magazine publications, editorials, music promotion and fashion retailers. Runway work encompasses designers as diverse as Vivienne Westwood, John Rocha, Rick Owens, Nasir Mazhar, Hackett London, Hood By Air, John Galliano and Stella MacCartney. 

His many-varied experiences within hairdressing have taught him a diverse range of skills and his work embraces all styles of styling, cutting and colouring, including avante-garde, vintage, wig cutting and after-care for cancer and alopecia sufferers.

Simon has over 30 years hands-on experience and knowledge then enable him to cater exactly to SWH clients’ individuality and expectations. Knowing what’s important to each of our clients and making their experience at SWH individual to them comes from over 25 years of learning. Demonstrating and styling for the hair, music and fashion industries for well over 15 years, as well as in-salon, gives Simon the opportunity to bring fresh techniques to the work created on the salon floor and in-studio.

Having been a senior member of an award-winning artistic team for one of the largest salon groups in the UK, creativity is at the forefront of my work!

Teaming bespoke colour and flattering cuts for the individual, whilst understanding my clients and making each visit unique, is something I thrive off. I am a certified L’Oréal colour specialist and also specialise in tape hair extensions for fine or thinning hair.

I have been both regional and grand finalist of the L’Oréal Colour Trophy 2 years running as well as one of 11 chosen from the UK to make The Fellowship of British Hairdressing’s Project X Team and a semi-finalist for the Fame Team. And I love bringing the knowledge, excitement and innovation all of these experiences into my salon work.

Patrick Matthews, Brand Ambassador, SWH Team & SWH Art Team

I moved to Brighton from Dublin in 2014 and since joining SWH Team became a L’Oreal ID Artist, representing the brand internationally at industry shows and demonstrations, won the Mizani Afro Award 2015 and in 2016 we won the LCT Southern Region Award in the Grand Final and achieved UK 2nd Place overall.

My hairdressing is always about shape, shine and structure. It’s essential to meet the clients needs by listening closely to what they want and need from a cut or colour. I love using free-hand colour placement to enhance a clients’ best features. After 10 years in hairdressing, in 2015 I attained the L’Oreal Colour Specialist Degree.

Phil Gilbert, Specialist Stylist, SWH Team

I’ve been hairdressing for over 10 years and always had a particular passion for short hair and men’s barbering with a creative edge. I also love working with luscious waves and curls, creating a new level of versatility.  I am passionate about my session work at Fashion Week (Balmain, Chanel, Dior) and bring looks from the catwalk working on Sam McKnight’s first team into my salon-styling to keep my clients on-trend and fresh.

Linzi King, Specialist Stylist, Colourist & Extensions Artist, SWH Team

Over 12  years styling in salons, working on editorials and runway shows, I’ve developed a contemporary, soft style that lends itself to beautifully natural, street-looks. I won the 2012 double award for Great Lengths hair extensions artistic styling and have developed a unique pattern to ensure authentic-looking extensions. Previously at Myla & Davis, London, I’ve brought my specialisms in Great Lengths extensions application and after-care to SWH.

Max Backshell, Specialist Stylist & Colourist, SWH Team

I’ve been working in the hair industry for over 6 years now, having shadowed and been trained by multi award-winning hairdressers and reaching the finals of multiple industry photographic competitions. Being Brighton-born, creativity’s an essential part of my life both in and out of work, and being able to apply this passion to cutting and colouring is what I live for. Moving to SWH enabled me to continue exploring the new ideas and techniques that have made hairdressing my passion and my work is more exciting than ever, heading up the salon education programme as well as my client work.

Hayley Mallinder, Senior Stylist & Colourist, SWH Team

I’ve been hairdressing for 25 years and trained in both London and Sydney before opening my own successful salon in Australia. I’ve trained with L’Oreal and Wella and enjoy creating bold, block colours or subtle pastels. 

Now relocated to Brighton, I take inspiration from fashion history, music and art. I love cutting strong, distinctive shapes in women’s styling or strong, sleek shapes like classic bobs. My passion for the history of styling and the techniques used, informs  my salon work and I strive to find new ideas and approaches to styling hair.  Although I have taken part in competition work and session-styling, my focus is in-salon and I thrive on my relationship with clients and SWH Team.

Jesus Oliver, Senior Stylist/Colourist, SWH Team

Previously an educator for Toni & Guy, Kaizo, L’Oreal and Bumble&bumble, I now travel the world working as a freelance educator and product developer, working with salons across Europe. I started hairdressing when I was just thirteen and became an Educator and Colour Director for Toni&Guy in Valencia by the time I was 20. I was a finalist in the Toni&Guy Colour Technician of The Year three times and won the award in my third year.

Over twenty years of styling in salons and educating has taught me the importance of thorough consultations and in-chair client education so styles can be recreated at home. I specialise in free-hand colour placement, creative colour and advanced techniques.

Hannah De Frateschi, Senior Stylist & Colourist, SWH Team & SH Art Team

My love of fashion has drawn me into editorial and runway work, and since working at SWH I have been a Grand Finalist and now Winner of the annual Bb Styling competition to represent the brand.

My particular specialism is for detail work and finishing, including street-styling, braiding, vintage, wedding, and intricate hair-ups. As well as in-salon styling and colouring, I hold client 1:1s and groups. To find out more about booking a group party or individual styling class, contact the salon.

Sophie White, Stylist & Colourist, SWH Team

Having finished my Level 3 in Hairdressing while working as an SWH Team apprentice, I progressed to Graduate Stylist and now work at Stylist level. I have been with the salon since they opened and have learnt a lot by working closely with all the talented members SWH Team across all fields of styling, cutting and colouring whilst learning my new craft. This is reflected in the diversity of  my hairdressing work and the utmost attention I pay to client-care.

Four years after starting my education in hair, I have finished my Level 3 in Advanced Hairdressing. SWH has enabled me to broaden my skills, meet a wide range of clients and see first-hand a more diverse range of styles.
As a Graduate Stylist I am experiencing the full spectrum of styling, from women’s to gents’ work and more avant-garde, and have developed my skills by learning from the team in-salon as well as through my studies.

I currently take on clients at a special Graduate Stylist rate while I complete my first year full-time on the floor.

I’ve always had an interest in the creative and artistic industries. I started working at SWH as a hairdressing apprentice when I left school and quickly progressed from my assisting role to leading the Junior Team. Now fully-trained in hairdressing I have moved to a Front of House role, where I can combine my creative and managerial skills. I have a great insight into the workings of both styling and client-care roles, enabling me to deliver the best customer care possible.
